Heather Hill (she/her)

My name is Heather Hill.  I live in Strathcona County and enjoy a combination of acreage and city life. I have an amazing and supportive family with a husband and three big kids!

Prior to my life as a doula, I worked as a social worker for Children’s Services.  My role then was to support families through crisis and often very sad moments in their lives; this role pushed me to be solution focused and to find creative solutions for individuals as they moved through major life changes.  Unknown to me then, it was all training for my future role in birth work!

After 2004, I transitioned from professional life as a social worker, to mother, and birth worker.  After having my third child in 2010, supporting my sister as a coach for the birth of her child, and my best friend for her planned VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean), I finally made the leap to birth work as my primary profession.  In 2011, I completed my DONA Birth Doula training and became fully certified birth doula.  I have not looked back since.  My skill set has continued to grow and evolve.  Beginning as a hobby photographer, I began building my photography skills so that I could document birth stories for my doula families.  I have become a Certified Holistic Doula with Matrona Institute, a Lamaze trained Childbirth Educator, CAPPA trained Lactation Educator, Spinning Babies Aware, and a Hypnobabies HypnoDoula.  I hold certification as a 200Hour Hatha Yoga and 85Hour Pre and Postnatal Yoga Teacher. I am a member with the Doula Association of Edmonton, and sit on the board of the Doula Association of Alberta

I see my role as a doula to be a personal guide on your birth journey. Prenatally, we spend time discussing the physical and emotional aspects of birth to inform decision making, so that you can make empowered and informed decisions that are best for you and your baby.

I will work collaboratively and professionally with your medical care givers, and your support people.  Whether it is holding space, verbal affirmations, applying comfort measures, guiding birth partners in provide support, advocating, informing or providing a calming presence, I am there to fill in any gaps so you have a complete, fulfilling and positive birth experience.

Additional Training: Lamaze Trained Childbirth Educator, CAPPA trained Lactation Educator, Spinning Babies Training, Rebozo for Labour, Canadian Photography Learning Institute various programs, Hypno-babies, Yoga Teacher Training, Bachelor of Social Work.

Heather is an incredible doula. We honestly cannot say enough about her unconditional support and calming nature. She is so experienced and knowledgeable about everything labour and birth that we felt so reassured having her with us throughout our journey. She was so prepared and had unlimited ideas and suggestions that got us through a very long labour. Most of all, her generous support encouraged us and was essential in helping us bring our baby into the world the way we hoped to.
